Kamuela Provision Company – Hilton Waikoloa Big Island of Hawaii

On Saturday night we found ourselves at the Hilton Waikoloa around dinner time. We though we might check out the food offerings. While wandering we ended up in a tower lobby and asked a concierge to book us a table at one of the restaurants. She tried to get us into the Kamuela Provision Company. Her system showed they were completely full

We made our way to the restaurant anyway. Once there we checked at the hostess desk and were advised they were indeed completely full. They did offer us a spot on the small deck that was serviced by the lounge. Perfect we thought.

The deck had 6 tables and looked out over the bay. We were sat just as the sun was setting. We couldn’t have planned it better.

Dessert was pretty great. We ended up ordering a baked Mauna Kea and a Coconut Creme Brulee.

Sam Choy’s Kai Lanai – Big Island of Hawaii

We had the good fortune to eat at Sam Choy’s Kai Lanai in Keahou last night. A Friday night dinner out with an awesome view was on the list. Sam Choy’s provided it. Dessert was the “Award winning Kai Lanai Chocolate Cake” – a flourless chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.

Internet Monitoring – Hawaii

This week I am fortunate enough to be staying at the Sheraton Keahou on the Big Island of Hawaii.During my morning routine I read the posts of my favorite blogs.

This morning I had a message pop up on my browser screen indicating I had violated Oceanic Time Warners internet policy. It seems this company monitors your internet use. Even when paying for the privilege of using it.

I know what you are thinking….. yes I do..! But the site I was visiting was www.thefoodpornographer.com. After a 10 minute call that I had to pay for I was finally released and let to browse again.

Shame Time Warner!

Tuesday’s lunch was at the Hale Kai Restaurant at the Fairmont Orchid Hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii. We were lucky enough to be seated at the front of the restaurant for a seaside lunch.

At the end of the meal we ordered a Kona Coffee & Vanilla Ice Cream Cake and a Aztec Spiced Chocolate Mousse along with a pot of french press coffee.

Both were pretty good!

Four Seasons Hualalai Sunday Brunch – 2013

Yesterday I had the great fortune to have Sunday Brunch at the Four Season Hualalai on the Big Island of Hawaii. I had previously visited a couple of years ago.The brunch view looking over the ocean is amazing and the food is great as well. One of the high points from my last visit was a Macadamia Cinnamon roll. I couldn’t wait to have one again.

I eagerly snapped one up for the first coffee of the day! Sadly the recipe has changed. It appears that a basic cinnamon roll is cooked over a bed of macadamia nuts. While good…. they not as amazing as they were before.

I have worked out the old recipe and will publish it when I come home.

Inspiration….Whole Foods Honolulu

The second last day before returning home from Oahu we took a trip to Whole Foods to see if we could find anything interesting to bring home with us.It turns out there wasn’t much to bring home but I did spy this Fruit Flan:

This thing was 8″ high!
Something to aspire to!

Four Seasons Hualalai – Big Island

On my last day on The Big Island of Hawaii I decided to stop for Sunday brunch after checking out of the condo but before checking in for my flight to another island.

The Four Seasons Hualalai was chosen because it was close to the airport.

The Four Seasons always has amazing service and better than average food. Sunday on the Big Island was no exception!

There was a standard Sunday Buffet spread. Omelets, breads, fruit, Eggs Benedict.

There was one small nugget that stuck out…. Macadamia Sticky Buns. These were not your run of the mill giant sticky buns but small bundles of joy. What could be better than cinnamon spiced brioche with sticky macadamia nut topping? How about having them kept under a warming lamp? Not much.

Note to self……

Could you only eat 3?
Really?

Inspiration….. Guava Cake, Big Island Hawaii

Wandering through a couple of grocery stores owned by the same company (Makaish) here on the Big Island of Hawaii i came across this bright creation a few times. I took this picture in the Mauna Lani resort area. A fellow baker from the area caught me taking the picture and asked me if I was a a baker too? After affirming his guess he told me this was a Guava cake. Very Bright…Very Exotic!
